World’s youngest chess champion in 2024.
Gukesh Dommaraju, born on May 29, 2006, in Chennai, India, is one of the brightest stars in the chess world. Known for his tremendous and exceptional achievement at a young age, Gukesh became the second-youngest Grandmaster in history at just 12 years, 7 months, and 17 days in January 2019.
Over the years, Gukesh has achieved numerous milestones, including winning the gold medal on the top board at the 2022 Chess Olympiad and breaking into the FIDE world’s top 10 rankings in 2023, making him the youngest player ever to achieve this feat. His success at the 2023 FIDE World Cup, where he reached the semifinals, secured him a place in the 2024 Candidates Tournament, a key step toward the World Chess Championship.
In 2023, Gukesh also played an exhibition match against reigning World Chess Champion Ding Liren, further showcasing his potential to compete at the highest level.
